Rain Garden workshop
October 28 @ 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Rain gardens are a beautiful AND functional solution to stormwater runoff. Learn how to create one!
Join us for a FREE Rain Garden workshop and then get hands-on experience installing a rain garden at a private residence in Middle River.
A rain garden is a special, water loving garden that helps soak up rain water from your roof or driveway. It is designed to capture water from a 1” rain storm and slowly infiltrate it back into the ground. By using beautiful, native flowers, grasses and even trees, a rain garden will beautify your yard while reducing stormwater impacts. It also provides habitat for wildlife, beneficial insects, such as ladybugs, and pollinators like butterflies.
No gardening experience necessary! Appropriate for ages 7 and up. Community service learning hours available.
What to expect: Dress for yard work (hat, long pants, sneakers/boots, sunscreen) and bring your own water bottle. Garden gloves and tools will be provided. Our hosts will provide lunch after the garden installation.
Location: Private residence, 1010 Wampler Road, Middle River, MD 21220
The Clear Creeks (CCKs) project, coordinated by the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy, is a grant-funded, citizen-based initiative that helps answer a community desire to restore the water quality of the Middle River, Tidal Gunpowder, and Bird River watersheds. Additional funding provided by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation; Chesapeake Bay Trust; Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability; Baltimore Gas and Electric; and Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund, administered by Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
