Rain Garden Workshop – Phoenix
November 11, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Get your hands dirty for clean water. Learn about the benefits of adding native plants to your landscape.
A rain garden is a special, water loving garden that helps soak up rainwater from your roof, driveway, or other hard (impervious) surface. It is designed to capture water from a 1″ rainstorm and slowly infiltrate it back into the ground. By using an assortment of beautiful native plants, rain gardens can also provide habitat for wildlife, beneficial insects, such as ladybugs, and pollinators like butterflies.
Click here to register for a FREE rain garden workshop at a private residence in Phoenix, MD. No gardening experience necessary. Appropriate for children 8+ years old with parent/guardian.
What will I do at the workshop?
- Learn about stormwater runoff and how it affects local waterways
- Learn how to divert rain water draining from hard surfaces to a rain garden
- Gain hands-on experience planting several native plants into a newly built rain garden
What to bring?: Dress for yard work (long pants, hat, closed shoes, sunscreen) and bring your own water bottle.
This workshop is part of the Clear Creeks Project. Coordinated by the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC), the Clear Creeks Project is a grant-funded, citizen-based initiative that helps answer a community desire to restore the water quality within the Gunpowder Watershed.
