Become a Stream Captain
Make a difference for future generations by helping to restore our heritage of clean, safe water.
- Improve conditions for recreation, crabbing, fishing, and boating
- Experience the beauty of our part of the Chesapeake Bay
- Raise awareness about water pollution by becoming the voice of your neighborhood stream
The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) offers Adopt-A-Stream trainings several times a year. Participants learn how to:
- Safely remove trash from our waterways
- Organize clean-up events
- Report potential hazards
At the end of the training, you can “adopt” a quarter-mile stream segment within the Gunpowder Watershed and become its Stream Captain! GVC supports Stream Captains by recruiting volunteers, providing them with supplies, and/or promoting their events.
