Bay-Wise Landscaping & Rain Barrel workshops
June 17, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm
You’re invited to join Gunpowder Valley Conservancy and Divinity Lutheran Church for a day of FREE Bay-Wise Activities
Did you know that adding native plants to your property and installing a rain barrel are two ways to reduce stormwater runoff, the leading source of pollution to our local waterways? We are offering two FREE workshops to motivate homeowners, businesses, and other faith-based organizations to take action for clean water. See how small changes can reduce your environmental footprint, increase clean water flowing towards the Chesapeake Bay, and promote pollinator habitat, among other benefits.
- 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Bay-Wise Landscaping workshop with optional hands-on gardening component
- 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM: Catered lunch
- 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Rain Barrel workshop with option to purchase your own barrel to take home.

Divinity Lutheran Church is in the process of adding several stormwater best management practices (BMPs) to its campus. The work completed during this event will help the church achieve Bay-Wise Certification through the University of Maryland Extension’s Bay-Wise Program. This project is also a partnership with Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake and is primarily funded by a Chesapeake Bay Trust Outreach and Restoration Grant.
RAIN BARREL INFORMATION
GVC will be selling 55 gallon blue rain barrels in advance of the workshop. Please make sure to submit your order when registering for the workshop. Our rain barrels are repurposed, food-grade barrels donated by McCormick.
Regular cost is $70/barrel. If your property is within the GVC’s Clear Creeks Project area, you are eligible to receive a 50% discount of $35/barrel as well as installation free of labor. This area includes Hunt Valley, Timonium, Nottingham, White Marsh, and Middle River. GVC staff will confirm if your address qualifies for the discount.
