Project Clean Stream – Loch Raven Reservoir
04/24/2021 @ 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Note: Participants are expected to wear face masks during this event. The event will be held outdoors and adhere to our COVID-19 social distancing policy.
Do your part to keep our local waterways clean! Spend a morning hiking in and removing trash along a section of Loch Raven Reservoir as a part of Project Clean Stream and the 51st anniversary of Earth Day.
With assistance from over 10,000 volunteers, the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy has removed over 240 tons of trash from streams and creeks in the Gunpowder Watershed. We need YOUR help to continue the task of removing refuse that jeopardizes the health of our waterways and the animals that call them home.
Volunteers are needed to clean a section of Loch Raven Reservoir in Cockeysville. This clean-up project is part of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay’s Project Clean Stream campaign. We are allowing minors (ages 13+) to participate as long as their parent/legal guardian is present during the event.
We are seeking individual volunteers and volunteer groups to spend several hours picking up and bagging trash, which we will then pile in a location for later pick-up. Volunteers will need to hike in to (and out from) the site, which takes about 35-45 minutes to reach on foot.
Date: Saturday, April 24, 2021
Time: Please arrive by 9:15 am to sign in Clean up begins at 9:30 am and goes to 12:30 pm.
Location: Loch Raven Reservoir near Cockeysville. Since there is limited parking at the trailhead, we are currently figuring out the best location to meet and potentially carpool. It will depend on how many volunteers sign up. We will contact all registered volunteers by email with detailed driving directions as the event date approaches.
What to wear/bring: Close-toed shoes that can get wet are mandatory; rubber boots or waders (optional) are recommended. Wear long pants and long sleeves, as we will be moving through some brush to reach the clean-up area. Bring sun protection and/or rain gear as appropriate. Bring your own water bottle and your own favorite snacks that you know personally will keep you energized!
