This September, we challenge you to spend time outdoors to support your local land trust and watershed non-profit, Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC)! Discover the beauty of the Gunpowder Watershed of Baltimore County - our connection to the Chesapeake Bay.  Participants that register will receive a t-shirt with our cool Gunpowder Watershed design and are eligible for our raffle prize giveaways!

The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) is a Baltimore County-based land trust and watershed restoration non-profit organization. Since 1989, the GVC has protected 1850+ acres in conservation easements, planted 32,000+ trees and removed 260+ tons of trash throughout the watershed. Learn more about the GVC's work.

Places to Explore

Whether or not you register, we encourage everyone to spend some extra time this September and #GVCExplore our beautiful watershed. From brook trout to rockfish, the Gunpowder sustains a rich variety of wildlife as it flows from the hilly Piedmont of northern Baltimore County down to the sandy shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Home to Prettyboy and Loch Raven Reservoirs, the Gunpowder watershed also sustains us by supplying over 60% of the greater Baltimore area’s drinking water.

Here are some suggestions for places to explore within the watershed:

Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail - you know it, you love it, the NCR Trail! View general park information.

Nature Centers - great for families and friends. May we suggest Marshy Point Nature Center, Cromwell Valley Park, and Oregon Ridge Nature Center.

Reservoirs - spend time around the water at Prettyboy Reservoir and Loch Raven Reservoir.

Gunpowder Falls State Park - endless hiking and exploring within the state park. Get driving directions for all state park areas. Here are trail maps for:
